On Monday, January 16, 2012, starting at 8:30 a.m., the Seacoast Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition will sponsor a special breakfast at The Jarvis Center to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.s birthday. Our theme is, What Diversity Means To Our Generation.
The Seacoast MLK, Jr. Coalition is pleased to be working with Sean McGhee, Director of the Officeof Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of New Hampshire, who has extensive experience working with students in diversity, social justice and civil rights dialogues. He worked pro bono to engage the high school students on these issues.
Furthermore, famous local artist Richard Haynes, a pillar of the Seacoast arts and civil rights movement, has generously stepped forward to share his time and talent for the benefit of thecommunity. He is leading the high school students in creating diversity art, at no cost except forthe arts materials. Students will select a final design to create a 4x8 mural that will hang permanently at Portsmouth High School, and be seen by the public for the first time at the MLK, Jr. Breakfast. Students will also share their responses and insights gained from this experience.
Music will feature adult and youth talent from the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center.
Tickets for the event may be purchased in advance by calling Nate Holloway at (603) 427-0443. We hope that you will consider the purchase of a table (for 8) for $125.00 for the benefit of your family and friends. Please consider donating a ticket for the student participants.
We look forward to your support to keep Dr. Kings dream alive in New Hampshire.
